The local United Methodist Women (UMW) Unit

supports missions globally through individual pledges and locally through the annual
Pineapple Antique Show & Sale, Mission Studies and the Be A Blessing Ministry.

Our Purpose

 

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand conceptsof mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.

UNIT GENERAL MEETINGS

The Unit of United Methodist Women at First Church – Sarasota hold monthly general meetings on the First Tuesday of each month, unless otherwise noted. Meeting dates are included in the 2010 Unit Program Calendar The general meetings include a devotional, business meeting and program with sandwiches, beverages and desserts served each month.

CIRCLES

At First Church- Sarasota, there are 6 circles that meet on a monthly basis at various dates, times and locations. Each Circle has between 6 – 25 members. Dorcas is a sewing circle and the members sew clothing for the United Methodist Children’s Home. The other circles choose a study program. This small group atmosphere provides an opportunity to get to know one another and develop lasting friendships.

Elizabeth Circle

Meets 1st Wednesday

7:00 p.m. in Room 108

Format is Book Study

Esther Circle

Meets 2nd Wednesday

Noon in Members’ Homes

Miriam Circle

Meets 3rd Wednesday

11:30 a.m. with location announced each month

Rebekah-Sarah Circle

Meets 3rd Tuesday

1 p.m. at First Church, Fellowship Hall

Serendipity Circle

Meets 3rd Tuesday

BE A BLESSING MINISTRY TEAMS

At First Church – Sarasota, UMW offers many opportunities to participate in mission work. Be a Blessing Ministry Teams were formed by 2007 Membership Chair Donna Stickler (deceased) to provide a forum for women who were looking for a non-traditional way to participate in UMW. The ministry teams provide opportunities to reach out beyond the walls of the Church in service to others through Christ.

* Bless Your Neighbor: Bless your neighbor with simple acts of kindness.
* Christ, Coffee and Crafts: Make pillows for cancer patients.
* Faith Works: Participate in various local service and project opportunities
* Joyfully Offering Yourself (J.O.Y.): Holiday Shoe Box ministry for homebound and shutins.
