Rev. Sam Wright, Ph.D. (affectionately known as Dr. Sam) has served United Methodist churches in Florida since 1994. He was appointed to First United Methodist Church of Sarasota (First Church) in July 2016.
Besides serving as a pastor, one of his other passions is teaching. In addition to teaching classes in churches, he has taught in universities and seminaries in Indiana, Kentucky, Florida, and Brazil - mostly in the field of Biblical studies. He also enjoys writing. He has written Sunday School curriculum and articles for theological journals.
In 2016 he published Heartbreak to Hope: Overcoming the Anguish of Grief to help people who are struggling with loss. The book is based on the personal journey he and his wife Yvonne endured after the death of their son in 2013. This publication has helped many cope with loss and is available in the church office or at www.amazon.com.
Their daughter teaches special needs children in the public schools in Sarasota, Florida.
Dr. Sam has the mind of a scholar and the heart of a pastor with a great sense of humor mixed in.
He and the congregation of First Church welcome you.
